Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)?

A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who specializes in mental health care. PMHNPs are trained to assess, diagnose, and treat psychiatric disorders through a combination of therapy and medication management. How do make a new patient appointment?

To make an appointment, click here and select which service, preferred payment option, and your preference for a tele-health or in office appointment.

After your appointment is scheduled, check your email for the necessary steps to complete at least 48 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Completed the required intake form from Rooted Willow. You will receive an email with a link to our intake form, which includes important consents and personal history details to help us prepare for your appointment.

  • Complete the intake forms with Headway (our billing partner). You will receive an email from  "noreply@e.headway.co" with a link to the forms.

  • Set up your patient portal access. This is the best secured platform for communication with your clinician. Be on the look out the day of your appointment for brief screeners to complete depending on the reason for your visit and mental health history.

These steps are essential to help us prepare for your appointment. If the forms are not received at least 48 hours prior to your appointment, we may need to reschedule.

Additionally, in some cases, we may not be able to meet your mental health needs. If that is the case, you will be notified as soon as possible. Of course, let us know if there are any extenuating circumstances and we will try to accommodate if possible. Thank you for understanding!

Do you offer testing for ADHD?

At Rooted Willow Psychiatry, we offer thorough ADHD evaluations designed to provide clarity and confidence in diagnosis. While our approach is not classified as neuropsychological testing, it incorporates multiple evidence-based modalities to rule in or out an ADHD diagnosis effectively.

Our process is a more accessible and affordable alternative to traditional neuropsychological testing, without compromising on the depth of assessment. If an ADHD diagnosis is confirmed, we collaborate closely with you to identify and prescribe the medication best suited to your unique needs, supporting your journey to improved focus and well-being.

Additional charges for ADHD testing may apply. Inquire for details.

What happens during a follow-up psychiatry appointment?

In follow-up sessions, we will review your progress with the current treatment plan, including how you’re responding to prescribed medications. We assess the effectiveness of the medication, discuss any side effects, and make adjustments as needed to optimize your care. These sessions also include brief supportive therapy to address any immediate concerns or challenges you may be facing.

The focus is on ensuring that your treatment continues to align with your goals and adjusting as necessary to support your ongoing mental health.
